We are deeply saddened to inform you that our beloved, Venerable Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jamyang, the former Abbot of Sera Mey Monastic University and the former most Senior Abbot of the six monasteries of the Gelupa’s order, has passed away while still in a deep meditative state of mind, in Montreal, Canada, on November 15th, 2020.
We are saddened not only at the loss of an exceptional Buddhist teacher who has shed the light of the Buddha Dharma to many hundred thousands of Buddhists from all over the world, but also at the great loss of a preeminent Tibetan lama that has greatly contributed in the making, the building, and the survival of thousands of Gelupa’s monks at Sera Mey Monastery.
We greatly regret the loss to all Khensure Rinpoche’s disciples as well as to all of Khensure Rinpoche’s dharma students.
Our beloved Venerable Khensur Rinpoche Geshe Lobsang Jamyang was born in 1933 into the family of Tsewang (father) and Bhutrug (mother) in a place called Ghyongpa, a part of Lithang locality of Kham region in Tibet. He was honored for his generosity by the American Cancer society in 2017, with a memorial bench in his honor."
Venerable Khensure Rinpoche Lobsang Jamyang was known for his great compassion and his life-time devoted-practice of the Buddha’s teachings himself and his love to help spread the Buddha’s Dharma to all sentient beings that he came across.
The funeral rituals and ceremony will continue for three days (3) starting from Friday, November 20th through Sunday, November 22nd, 2020. The final funeral rituals and the final funeral ceremony will begin at 10 AM on Sunday, November 22nd, 2020. The Manjushri center will provide a direct viewing through Zoom for all students, Dharma’s brothers, sisters and friends that can not be here in Canada, in order for you to pay your last respects to Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jamyang.
The Crematory Ceremony will be held at Montreal's crematorium in the morning of November 23rd, 2020.
Respectfully yours,
Tenzin Kalsang
